Cliffside is an established, family-oriented neighbourhood located along Toronto's eastern beaches, next to the Scarborough Bluffs. Cliffside has a mix of older style homes, tree-lined streets and a vibrant shopping district along Kingston Road. Cliffside was historically known as Mortlake, the area boasted a post office in the Halfway House Hotel on Kingston Road (the hotel has now taken up residence in Black Creek Pioneer Village). In the early 1900s, the area evolved as a summer cottage community. Year-round residences were built between 1920-40 and include a mix of architectural styles including Tudor, Cape Cod, Edwardian and Craftsman style bungalows. Chine Drive, south of Kingston Road, is known for its fine collection of Tudor and Elizabethan style houses that are set back from the road in a forest-like setting. Fishleigh Drive, at the south end of the neighbourhood, offers homeowners splendid backyard views of the lake.
